Richard Kemp founded Kemp Insurance in 1976. He operated the business from his home on Johnson Ridge before eventually opening an office at 280 West Main Street in Barnesville, Ohio. 

The agency has since been owned and operated by Richard's daughter, Kim and her husband Jewett Stephen, since 2000. Molly Harris joined their team in 2001.
